Melt Shop Cooling Water Circuit

When one of the world’s most advanced steel processing facilities needed to expand its production capabilities with the addition of an Electric Arc Furnace, they turned to GrayWolf to get a challenging project back on track. Brought in after months of schedule delays, GrayWolf mobilized immediately — delivering structural and heavy industrial scopes under a single contract with no room to extend the timeline.

GrayWolf completed the full scope within 70% of the original allocated schedule duration, managing the fabrication and erection of 1,300 tons of structural steel across five buildings, the installation of 21,000 linear feet of above-ground piping, and the alignment of 123 pieces of owner-furnished equipment. The team also provided complete fabrication, installation, and quality assurance for the Cooling Water Circuit (CWC), encompassing cooling towers, heat exchangers, centrifugal pumps, and multiple support structures and buildings.

Precision planning was central to the team’s success. By coordinating fabrication drawings in advance of every steel shipment, GrayWolf created installation work packages for each truckload — eliminating the need for a laydown yard and keeping cranes continuously productive.

Over 160,000 craft hours were worked on the CWC scope alone, and the project was completed with zero lost time injuries — a testament to GrayWolf’s deeply ingrained safety culture and the leadership team’s commitment to sending every worker home safely, every day.
