Scrubber Relocation
The Scrubber Relocation project is located in Centertown, Kentucky, and was performed for owner Big Rivers Electric Company at a firm contract price of $6 million. The project involved the complete disassembly, transport, and reconstruction of a Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Scrubber Island from one power plant to an alternate facility approximately 60 miles away.
Prior to any physical work, the team utilized laser scanning technology to capture existing conditions of all structural steel, equipment, piping, vessels, and ductwork. This data was used to develop a detailed 3D model of the process island, which informed the disassembly strategy, crane access and lifting requirements, and overall safe execution planning. A 3D animation was also created to support pre-construction coordination efforts.
The physical scope included the disassembly of steel, piping, ductwork, equipment, and the scrubber vessel itself, followed by inspection and repairs to the vessel before shipping all components to the new installation site for full reconstruction of the scrubber island. 3.25 megawatts. These generators will be distributed across six generation yards, each individually connected to the three data center buildings, ensuring a robust and efficient power supply.
